 Adult Faith Committee
We are each called through our baptism to actively live and grow in faith. Our experiences at home, in our parish community, and in our daily life’s work and play all shape our faith and our personal sense of purpose. The Adult Faith Committee (AFC) helps bring our parish vision statement to life. The committee supports the spiritual growth of parishioners by offering resource materials for individuals, families and small faith communities, as well as sponsoring faith formation events for all ages.  Sunday School

Each Sunday, the children gather during the 10:00 a.m. Mass beginning in September. There is a ratio of one adult to five children in the classes. Children have an opportunity to hear the Sunday gospel on their learning level. They also sing and participate in craft projects. Sunday school closes with all the children coming together for a prayer service.

Parents can bring their children to the school before they go to the 10:00 a.m. Mass and then come back to the school to pick-up their child when the Mass has ended.

For more information and registration form, see the Sunday School Brochure.

 Becoming a Catholic

Adults enter the Catholic Church through a process formally known as The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. At St. Pius we simply say “Initiation.” Initiation is an easy-going process which introduces you to the Catholic Christian tradition. This faith journey occurs within a small, supportive community of searching adults. All questions are welcome and there is no pressure. Each person has a parish companion whose goal is to offer hospitality on behalf of the whole parish.

Unbaptized? Initiation was intended especially for you in the most ancient Christian rites. In this case, you would prepare for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and first communion. Baptized in another Christian tradition? We treat your baptism into the Lord with reverence as you prepare for confirmation and communion in the Catholic Church. Baptized Catholic but without first communion or confirmation? We may be able to assist you with sacramental preparation.

How long is the process? A truthful answer is that it takes as long as it takes! Not infrequently, an individual will need a longer time to suit their personal and gradual deepening of faith. For many, gatherings that begin in September and continue for three weeks after Easter are a suitable time.

Sessions include gatherings on Thursday nights, Sunday Mass beginning in mid-November, two family potlucks, a Saturday retreat and ceremonies in church.

For further information please call Bette Niccolls at 373-1292.

Grades 1 -5
They meet each Wednesday evening at 4:45p.m. or 6:30p.m. at St. Pius School, starting in mid-September and runs through April (times/locations stated on registration form.)  Catechists help the children reflect on their lives in light of the gospel through a variety of activities.  Curriculum covers sacraments, commandments, morality, sexuality, church, Scripture, prayer and other interesting topics.  We stress active participation in the RE program not only in our classes, but at home as well!  Getting familiar with common Catholic prayers is one of our focuses this year. See combined registration form below.

Middle School

Our Middle School program consists of two six week units that use the Discovery curriculum from St. Mary’s Press.  Each unit is offered twice in the year and students decide when to attend.  Classes meet on Wednesdays, in the St. Pius School, from 6:15 – 7:40pm.  Students will also participate in a Reconciliation Service and Middle School Liturgy.  All students are encouraged to attend the all-city middle school youth rally and to participate in Youth Ministry activities on the Wednesday nights when they are not in RE classes.

These are the topics for the sessions in each grade level.

Grade 6 -----Session A -Becoming Friends
Session B - Exploring the Bible

Grade 7-----Session A - Praying
Session B - Celebrating the Eucharist

Grade 8-----Session A – Being Catholic
Session B - Meeting Jesus

High School
The high school students also choose to attend two six week units during the year.  On Wednesdays from 7:15 – 8:30pm they gather with a catechist in small groups in a home.  Using the Horizon series from St. Mary’s Press, they are guided through faith topics and activities that are important to their daily lives as young Catholics.  These teens are also given opportunities to celebrate the liturgy and sacrament of Reconciliation, as well as Youth Ministry events.

Catechist
If you would like to be a Catechists, Assistant Catechist, or a Substitute Catechist please contact the RE office...we will prepare you through a few different training opportunities!
